Sony announced that it planned to buy out Ericsson from the Sony Ericsson phone partnership at the end of last year and the deal was finalised this month. But while Sony officially took over the reins much of its online presence still bore the mark of Ericsson.
Although they have yet to update their social media presence on Facebook, Twitter and Google Plus (all of which still refer to the business as Sony Ericsson), Sony has started the process of stamping out all recollection of Ericsson by moving its mobile website to a new domain.
If you try to access SonyEricsson.com today you will find yourself being redirected to SonyMobile.com instead. The website is essentially the same, with the same news and product support, but completely devoid of anything even remotely Ericsson.
The new website is up in time for the imminent launch of the first Sony branded smartphone, the Sony Xperia S, which is due to go on sale in less than a fortnight.
